The G20 summit 2023 this weekend had significant implications, especially for Pakistan’s military leadership. Amidst all the discussions, there’s a glimmer of hope that the people of Pakistan might someday break free from military control, a cause even supported by their Indian neighbors.
India secured a pro forma condemnation of terrorism in Section I of the Declaration, a notable improvement compared to last year’s G20 Declaration in Bali, which merely hinted at the need for more action.
This year’s G20 event has undeniably revolved around India. It has garnered attention, extensive media coverage, and its fair share of controversies. This summit essentially marked India’s emergence on the global stage.
Yet, it’s also worth noting what hasn’t been in the spotlight. Surprisingly, it’s not Ukraine, despite the ongoing war. While Ukraine does make an appearance in the Leaders’ Declaration, it’s doubtful whether it will translate into any substantial impact on the conflict or its resolution.
Oddly absent from the discussions is Pakistan.
